Choco-Pecan Polvorones Cookies (aka Mexican Wedding Cookies)

Today we made Choco-pecan Polvorones Cookies!
(Polvorones aka Mexican Wedding Cookies)


  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • Optional: powdered/confectioner's sugar


  • Cream the butter and sugar
  • Add extracts and water, mix to combine
  • Add salt and ground cinnamon, mix to combine
  • Add the half the flour, mix to combine
  • Add half the chocolate chips and chopped pecans, fold to combine
  • Add remaining flour, mix to combine
  • Add remaining chocolate chops and chopped pecans, fold to combine
  • If the mixture has not fully come together, turn the bowl out onto a work surface and gently push the dough together. 
  • Chill dough for 30 minutes
  • Roll approximately 1 oz pieces of dough into a ball, place onto a cookie sheet and gently flatten out.

  • Bake in a preheated 325F oven for 15-18 minutes
  • Remove from oven, let sit on cookie sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to fully cool
  • Note on powdered sugar: Traditionally the cookies are tossed in powdered sugar to coat the whole cookie; We dusted the tops of the cookies with powdered sugar. You can choose how much powdered sugar you want to use, if at all
